Join the West Creek Coyote Band!
Why join band?
Quite frankly, it’s just plain fun! Participation in band is so much more than performance participation. Students who fully participate in band learn how to master the circumstances of life by putting ambition and skill into action in small and large group settings. Teamwork, problem solving, and student leadership will drive our efforts to become an outstanding organization that embraces excellence.
What are band membership requirements?
All instrumentalists are required to enroll in the band class (Instrumental Music) and fully participate in all band functions, to include marching band, pep band, and concert band.
What are my performances opportunities?
In the fall, students participate in 3 to 4 marching band competitions on Saturdays and home football games on Friday nights. In addition, the marching band participates in the Veterans Day and Christmas Parade in Clarksville. The concert band primarily performs in November, December, and May. The Pep Band performs at selected home basketball games in January and February. Throughout the year, many members audition for honor bands. On occasion, the band is asked to perform during school, at various community events, and away football games.
Can I participate in sports and JROTC?
Many of our students enjoy participating in sports and JROTC. However, football, volleyball, girls soccer, and cross country directly conflict with band rehearsals.
What do students do at band camp?
Band camp is a critical time of the year where students work hard at learning procedures, music, marching drill, and becoming a cohesive unit. Students are encouraged and challenged as they learn to integrate their musical skills with the physical demands of marching band. Band camp is required for all members.
Why do we practice after school?
The performance demands for high school instrumentalist are rigorous. Additional time is needed to ensure that students learn, and practice intricate skills associated with their instrument to prepare for performances, honor band auditions, as well as college auditions.
When do we practice after school?
During the marching band season (August-October), make plans to rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. From November to May, we typically practice two to three times after school until 4:30pm before concert band performances. Our concert band performs in November, December, and May.
The WCHS Color Guard is a class that performs at all marching band functions to include parades, games, competitions, and other public performances as requested. Although the class is open to all students, members of the performing group shall be selected by audition. They will participate in camp and afterschool rehearsals.
